My choice would be Avira AntiVir® PersonalEdition Classic
For my experience with AVG Free Edition (I believe it is 9.0 something like that) , that drag my computer performance down really bad. Everything after done download , then scan will take action slowly , every single file and folder I try to open (Most of time I got NOT Responding). I had tried to disabled some of the security feature e.g Scan incoming and outgoing mail. It gains my performance back, however, the point is if I had to turn of my defenses meaning there is no point to using it then. It did not sound secure to me. (PS*: I did not get any BOSD issue, but one time the computer just did reboot itself).
Just wondering what are the comments to everyone here for MSE ? According to the Posting on Windows 7 Forum today, it seems it is running with definition update issue to some of the user. Is that real ?
MSE?
Another attempt to throw another one of there apps down our throats.
They're not an Inter Security Company, they make OS; and ****ty apps for there OS;s. I prefer freeware or open source software any day.
The only Microsoft apps I use are Notepad on occasion and of course Registry Editor.
Out of those three you mentioned, I would highly suggest Avast. For a free anti virus product, this Beta 5 is great.
I've used Avast also and find it decent, if not a bit quirky in it's interface design. I have more PC's to cover than the 3-pack of Norton allows, so those "other" machines at home run Avast. I'm too cheap to buy two 3-packs. LOL!
For even more added security,. id suggest a firewall.
You can download PC Tools Firewall Plus™ 6 for Windows® for free
Now now, MSE isn't bad. You seem to be biased against Microsoft applications judging by that post but I'll ignore that for now.
Microsoft Security Essentials is a great choice for anti-virus. I've been using it since the original beta, I'm currently using the ongoing beta of it which has some quicker scan times for me over the public, stable version.
Its detected a lot of things that others have no detected, I'm not saying its perfect but its quite nice for a free product. Can't go wrong with free.
My personal choice is Mcafee! Windows 7 x64 and no problems.
