Prevention is better than Cure
Loads of people on this forum seem to be asking how to remove viruses, which anti-virus is best, which anti-spyware is best etc etc
An antivirus/spyware program uses a list of known threats and try's to identify suspicious behaviour which might indicate infection. In other words what it doesn’t know is a virus it just takes an educated guess at.
In the past week Avast users have found that this guessing at what’s a virus, has left there Operating System's unusable as its deleted key files and now means they have to reinstall the entire Operating System.
A much better approach to viruses/spyware/malware is to stop them getting on the pc in the first place by using a virtualization/sandbox technology. Below is a list of some of these programs:
DefenseWall
BufferZone
SandBoxie
GeSWall
Please note that these can only be used on 32bit Operating Systems.
