    Just use MSE.

Why pay when a free one works great?

MSE is great and free, though limited features and functionality. There's a lot of people using it and are quite pleased.

Personally I've never been able to accept Free as the right choice when it comes to Internet Security but that's a personal thing.

NIS 2010 is exceptional and is not representative of the BS Norton has release since Norton Antivirus 2004. If you shy away from free, then NIS 2010 is a very good option.

Because its a Resource hog and has less detection rate.
For paid AV, go for ESET or Vipre.
For free AV, go for Avast.

I'm a system admin and I'm using Trend Micro Pro 2010 for home use, it's so-so. It doesn't wow me and it don't really dislike it. When my license expires next year, I will try something else.

I find it to be fairly unobtrusive (and I like this); but now and then it the firewall crashes on it (on my Win 7, Vista & XP-mc machines) and I have to restart it manually. I've been unhappy with it's performance in handling root kit virus'. It always finds the spawns but never gets rid of the little nasty causing the issue and I've had to install unhackme to remove a rootkit on two occasions in the last 18 months.

The GUI is not user friendly (although a big improvement over the 2009 model).

The pro features are an extra download and I don't really use them because it takes too long to get the thing open and navigate to them and windows pretty much does it all anyway.

What I do like is that I can easily switch my licenses between PC's if I decommission or rebuild and the Micro Vault is useful for storing encrypted secrets.
