Never had a problem when I installed MSE on my laptop. I first removed Norton Anti-Virus and then installed the MSE. It worked perfectly!

Just in case anyone is still curious or has this problem themselves

I have had the same problem. The actual conflict is outlined here. All credit to Dutch55 for the diagnosis, and bsnf for the solution. This appears to be a Lenovo specific bug related to Lenovo's Access Connections pre and possibly 5.5.

Jacee was right. It was a definitely a conflict.

If Access Connections is turned off, the problem resolves.

If MSE is instructed to exclude Access Connections the problem resolves.

Normally, I would balk at reformatting everything 17 times while facing east, but I had this problem for a year or so without a solution, and the thread is 778 days old, so obviously, restoring was the right thing to do unless one has infinite patience.
