Did you click on a link in FaceBook?
Clear your DNS cache .... Sometimes a bad DNS entry will be cached and you will need to either flush the DNS cache to get rid of it, or wait up to 24 hours for it to be dropped from the cache automatically.
Open a command prompt....from the Start menu, select Run > In the box/"open field", enter cmd.exe
enter ipconfig /flushdns press 'enter'
Next,
Download the HostsXpert 4.3 - Hosts File Manager.
- Unzip HostsXpert 4.3 - Hosts File Manager to a convenient folder such as C:\HostsXpert
- Click HostsXpert.exe to Run HostsXpert 4.3 - Hosts File Manager from its new home
- Click "Make Hosts Writable?" in the upper right corner (If available).
- Click Restore Microsoft's Hosts file and then click OK.
- Click the X to exit the program.
- Note: If you were using a custom Hosts file you will need to replace any of those entries yourself.... you will have to re-check all protection in Spyware Blaster.
Now,
Download
ATF Cleaner ATF-Cleaner.exe - www.atribune.org
Click "Main" > check 'select all' (except Prefetch) this first time using it, then click "Empty Selected". Do the same for FireFox or Opera if you use either of those browsers.
Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options.
On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files".
Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK.
Reboot and see if you're still getting redirected.
I posted this last night, I dont think some people saw it. It looks like I found out the cause of the redirecting.
Just thought id update. I believe I found the culprit(s) to my woes. I noticed an extension with no name, installed. The name was just Extension and Ver 1.29. After some searching, it seems that has something to do with Linksadoor, which has some part in streaming. I know in the past couple months, ive been watching streaming NFL games and such. I dont remember using a Linksadoor link but I must have. That extension opened me up to the redirecting to ad sites.
I also noticed another extension that I know for a fact I never installed. UltraSurf Firefox Tool. I guess its geared toward people in countries with strict censorship or something. I think its spyware/adware personally though of course, it was never detected by the numerous scans ive run recently. Neither was the Extension 1.29 for Linksadoor.
I shouldve been more careful in my search for streaming sports games. I thought I was at the time, but apparently not enough. Luckily it was just redirecting and not a major trojan. I guess you really can NEVER be too careful when on the net.
Thanks to all that responded with advice, any help or ideas is always appreciated.
You definitely have a malware type virus... I have good results from a full scan of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware picking up and wiping out maybe 95% of the virus type things I've come across
Yes but, just like wearing "protection" in the real world you got to do it while browsing too
In IE you have to turn "internet" zone securoity to max or near max, then hand add trusted sites to the "trusted" zone to allow scripting.
It's a PITA in any browser but you really do have to to do it if you won't want your browser or your OS hijacked constantly. And as this incident shows, FF is no longer any sort of install and forget security fix for browsing the net... No matter what browser, you really need to lock it down, then choose carefully what sites you want to allow in, and even sometimes decide that some sites are not worth the risk and move on...
[Edit] I guess I should point out pendantically that doing this is a lot LESS hassle than getting and cleaning infections from not doing it! Just like RL... [/edit]
