the update is bound to the scan schedule or manual update

The only way i can see, it's a bit odd, but if you set it to so a quick scan everyday at say 12pm, it will update, and do a quick scan. :P

I suppose, it's something that MS should implement next version. I'd like to see it happen :P

    hi !

stillfreefilms: take a look at my post

    https://www.sevenforums.com/system-se...ws-update.html

"How to update MSE´s virus definitions WITHOUT Windows update,
(if you have selected Windows Update to "notify of available updates"):

use task scheduler, on the right panel click "Create Basic Task".
then enter a name, select daily, 1 day, run a program,
    in Program/Script enter: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security
    Essentials\MpCmdRun.exe"
    in Add arguments enter: "-SignatureUpdate"

if you want to update more than once a day, than create another task with a different time.
if i remember correctly the definitions are released 3 times a day... "

you also have to allow those tasks to run with a "USER-account",
otherwise it only works on your "ADMIN-account".

MSE does update automatically, if you have Windows Update set to check for, and apply, critical updates. My Windows Update installs MSE updates at least once/day. That daily update is also applied, only after a system restore point has been created. If hard drive space isn't an issue, extra restore points can be useful.

    Hi there
just think of the Logistics -- would make Santa's efforts seem trivial by comparison.

You'd have to have the program running all the time you were online checking the data base several times per hour -- imagine several million (or more) all logging into a database update at various times of the day and night.

Secondly you'd need something in the Database to tell MSE that it's been updated. That's also a bit of an overhead to do as well at the "Server" end.

Just use automatic updates -- if you want you can always run extra scans by running another "Check for Updates" manually if you want.

    Cheers
