You can't beat Avast, no matter what anyone says. I've used it for three years on four different systems, three laptops and this new PC that I'm using. Most antivirus programs slows the system noticeably, while Avast doesn't. And you have realtime protection. But it is a must to set the program to auto update. You'll know that it is updating, because it actually tells you so in audio. Add Ad Aware for a complete 1-2 punch against all malware, adware, spyware, tracking cookies and much more. The best thing about it is that both programs are free. And you get no "nag screens" trying to get you to make a purchase. But keep in mind that the free versions are for personal use only. They both have paid versions for business or professional purposes. You can't go wrong with this kind of protection.

Yep, this is the version that I have downloaded and installed. Just for fun I've been trying the Avast 5 Beta 3 that was recently released. Pretty impressed with it so far. Very light and did very well in the tests that I've thrown at it.

For a FREE anti virus product, I don't think you can go wrong with Avast. Nice interface as well.

    I'd take Avast over MSE.

Just a heads up guys and gals. The latest AVAST update (definitions I guess) is going absolutely bonkers with false positives. I don't know if it was malicious or database corruption, but a lot of systems are getting hosed right now. You might want to turn off standard/network shields for the time being until this is fixed...

Hopefully we get through this unscathed.. not sure Alwill 'will' :/

I would recommend to use the latest BETA build for now then. The 5.0.259 beta version is working perfectly fine for me currently.
