    Installed and working.

Issue with activation/registration though. It is a known issue, there is a thread on the Avast! Forums about it: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=93979.0

Until this matter is resolved, you can register by filling in this form: Register avast! Free Antivirus A reply, containing the key and instructions, will be sent to the email address specified. To install the key, open the main Avast! program and click on the Maintenance tab and then the Registration sub-tab. Under Offline registration, click on Insert the license key and paste the key you have copied from the email you received. Clicking on Registration form takes you to the form I mentioned above.

Beware of the pre-checked options after install and reboot of the update of avast! v7.0.1407. Image at Calendar Of Updates: Installers Hall of Shame (Unwanted add-on).

I'd noticed that. I make a point to deselect any such add-ons in any program that I install.

    Avast and carshes

    Hi to all

Yesterday reinstalled Windows 7, clean fresh installation. And installed Avast 7 on it. Result? 3 BSOD's per day with aswsp.sys to be blamed

    Sorry to hear that.

Normally, Avast! is very well behaved (and I personally have had no problems with it), but, like all AV programs, it can occasionally cause problems on some machines. This is because of the way they link in to the OS and hook in to the kernel. It might be beneficial if you could provide feedback to Avast! about this, so that they can address this issue.

    FYI

I did the in place update for AIS. Everything is working fine.
Of course I have a Macrium image for backup with AISv6 if needed.

I actually thought it was an v6 update. I didn't realize v7 was released so quickly.

IMPORTANT! Fix utility for corrupted avast! v6/v7 installations

if you have problems with "hung" updates in your avast! installations, please use this tool:
    http://public.avast.com/supp/FixUpdate.exe

    For version 7.0.1407
please run FixUpdate.exe, then run VPS update from avast! GUI. You can ignore the question whether you want to run a program update after the repair is done, because there's no further program update available for 7.0.1407 at the moment.

    For version 6.0.1367
please run FixUpdate.exe. After a few seconds, you will be asked whether you want to update the program (to version 7). If you choose to update, click "Yes" and wait several minutes for the process to be finished (you can check on the Maintenance / Update page - after the update is done, the page gets updated and says "Current version 7.0.1407", with a note that it's necessary to restart the machine to finish the update); then restart the computer.

The tool is meant to fix a specific problem, in particular the one mentioned e.g. here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=94454.0
If the machine is not affected by this particular problem, the tool will report so (usually with error code 2 or 11) and won't do anything.
If you did not experience any problems updating the virus definitions in the past 24 hours, just ignore this tool - there's no point in running it.
