    Test Your Firewall

I switched my Internet Security Suite on one of my computers from Trend Micro to Kaspersky. I ran a port scanner from the link provided below and found that every port is being stealthed. I do have this computer connecting though a router so the router will affect the test.

Out of curiosity, I am going to connect my computer directly to a LAN and run this test again later and see how well Kaspersky is blocking my ports. I am interested in finding out straight from you how well your firewall is doing its job too as it would be interesting to hear straight from everyone who wants to participate how well the free firewalls are doing compared to the premium ones.:)

Just Windows Firewall and my router. Really don't need a firewall or security "suite" IMO:

I just did a port scan using the same on mine with Windows firewall and showed Stealth on all ports. Guess I will leave well enough alone.

    hi !

yes, windows FW is stealth regarding INCOMING, but it doesn´t block OUTGOING connections,
which is the big problem with most firewalls.

Actually, doesn't the Windows Firewall in Windows 7 block outgoing as well? Pretty sure I read somewhere it does.

Regardless, I don't let programs on my system that I don't trust for outgoing connections and I have Avast plus Prevx to ensure that programs I don't know about, don't get installed.

The Windows Firewall for Vista and Windows 7 allows you to block outbound connections, something that Windows XP didn't.

    "allows you to block outbound"

yes, you CAN block outgoing connections, but it requires a lot of manual configuration.
    by default it doesn´t block.

Well, that's not what you said. You said it doesn't allow you to and it doesn't, but in fact it does.

but it doesn´t block OUTGOING connections
Oh and by the way, to properly quote a previous post, just hit the quote button.
