Hi, downfeather.

Edit Note: Try the system restore first. If that doesn't solve the problem let's see a log. If you elect to run Malwarebytes first, do a Quick Scan in normal mode, not safe mode.

If that doesn't work, please do the following:

Let's take a look at what is on your computer to determine whether we can advise you further with your problem. To do so, I will need to see a couple of logs. If you do not have HijackThis installed on your computer, please allow RSIT to download and install it.

  • Download random's system information tool (RSIT) by random/random from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
  • Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.
  • Once it has finished, two logs will open. Please post the contents of both log.txt (<<will be maximized) and info.txt (<<will be minimized)

Annnd I'm not positive on how to actually go about system restore, I apologize. I can Google some instructions if you like.
Why google, when we are here:
System Restore
But wait with this, as we may be able to do without it.
Firstly Do as Corrine told.

EDIT: Jonathan, I have noway to catch up with you, you always first

To use System Restore just type it in the start menu search box... then click on the shortcut to the process which appears - you shouldn't lose any personal stuff, but could lose software installed after the restore point selected... that said, presumably your problems may be linked to one of those installed packages...

You guys are so fast, this is crazy! I don't think I've ever got such support from a forum. Seriously. I'm used to waiting days.

Alright, following Corrine's steps as said. I'm picking a restore point that's before a bunch of critical Windows updates. I know for a fact that before those, things were fine, but I'm also fairly certain that I wasn't getting the freezing right after one or another. They seemed unrelated, and may have started after them. However, I do remember the updates taking forever to finish and I ended up leaving my computer on overnight instead, but they were all still successful.

In any case, restoring back to Dec. 1st, which was right before any of these critical updates, just to see. I'll be back, thought I'd get this in real quick.

edit: I'm taken if that helps?

Alright, I can keep my hair-color under-wraps just fine. I think.

Okay, system restored, and I have an error message for you guys!

Quote:
System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed.

Details:
System Restore failed while scanning the file system on the drive C:\. The drive might be corrupt. You might want to retry System Restore after running chkdsk /R on this disk.

An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. (0x8000ffff)
That sounds dandy. Sigh.

Should I go ahead and remove the three virus programs I currently have, and try the malwarebytes as suggested, and move on to Corrine's other steps?

Go ahead. Update: I just learned that Malwarebytes is best run in Normal mode, not safe mode. Thank Corrine for that!
