I think if you are still running an RC, it will automatically reboot every 2 hours beginning March 1?? So you have less than 60 days to get that straightened out.

Restarting out of the failed system restore just to be safe, then uninstalling all my virus programs and going to run malwarebytes.

Okay, so then it's unrelated to my build needing upgraded. That's.. somewhat nice to rule out, but yeah. I'll figure that all out later. If I have to do a clean install to fix whatever this is, then I'll go ahead then and worry about the upgrade and get that out of the way, but if that's necessary I'll probably put it off right now.

I plan on purchasing but haven't for several reasons, if we really want to get into this, though I rather find out if my problem is related to my build before doing so.

1. I didn't have the money at the time of the release, and won't until my next paycheck.
2. I had holidays, too much work, and an anime convention to go to.
3. I did not and won't until my next paycheck have the money for an external harddrive to back everything up, as I've been told this is necessary and that I can't simply put in the disc and update it on its own, but I have to remove everything instead.
4. I thought it would be easier to simply wait for the prompt, etc., etc.

I just removed AVG and my computer restarted much more slowly. At first, it looked like I was only going to get a command prompt screen and nothing else would load for a moment or two. Moving on to Ad-aware.

Did you run checkdisk? I suggest you do so.

The drive might be corrupt. You might want to retry System Restore after running chkdsk /R on this disk.

I would say you ought to get the release version, not least because it contains refinements, but because when March comes you'll start getting plagued by annoying shutdowns at 120 minute intervals on the earlier evaluation versions...

Can you tell me how to go about running chkdsk?

I've removed all of my virus programs. Shall I go ahead and run malwarebytes, or are we casting all of this up to my build? If so, I'd like confirmation and might as well stop bothering with checking anything since I'll have to erase it all anyhow. If the build is most likely unrelated to my problem, then I don't want to worry about that right now. I have enough on my mind, to be frank. If purchasing the official release, removing everything currently on here, after backing up all my files on an external, and putting all of this together will solve my problem, then I'll go ahead and do that -- UNLESS there's another way to fix this problem RIGHT NOW. I don't really want to spend the money on the official release and an external right now. If there's a way to fix my current problem besides that, then I would like to do that, so that I know not to let it happen again. If something's damaged WITHIN my computer, unrelated to the OS and et cetera, then I want that fixed before bothering to spend money on an official release.

Just. I want to know what my problem is instead of shelling out cash for an upgrade that I don't have the money for and can take care of later. Not to mention, I don't have a car, so it would take weeks for that to happen in this weather, and I don't want to continue damaging my system by hard restarting every several hours. A 120 minute interval ACTUAL shutdown is MUCH preferred. I'd also like to note that I had no issues with it whatsoever up until mid-December, and had been running it since roughly April with no issues otherwise. All in all, the cheapest of what I need that I can find would cost me over $200, and I already need a car, funds for college, rent, utilities, and much more since none of my roommates pay. So. That's pretty much last resort for me.

I know you're just trying to help, but I have certain monetary priorities that I have to keep in check.

Checkdisk:

right click a drive, choose properties, choose tools. It is under "error checking".

Or a command prompt as chkdsk /r.

Running malwarebytes now.

Did a Quick Scan, and it found something that nothing else has ever found.

Hijack.DisplayProperties is the name, in red. Category - registry data. I can type out the long location of it, if you like. In other it says bad (1) good (0) and then no action taken.

Based on another thread here, I'm guessing this is another false positive by Malwarebytes and I should ignore it. Gonna wait for confirmation, and otherwise finish the rest of Corrine's steps.

edit: Annnnd I get an error doing the RSIT program. It says "Line-1: Error: variable used without being declared".

So. Am I wiping this computer completely, since all of these other errors don't make sense, either? Like having stuff from Norton when I don't have Norton?
