Many of my programs can't seem to access the internet?

Hi everybody, first post here So naturally it's a problem.
Most of my programs work fine (Firefox, IE8, Xfire, Halo, etc.); but a lot of the other ones can't seem to access the internet. Windows Live's setup always seems to give me that problem, plus Windows Update and McCafee (!!).

I'm running the .exe's as administrators in computability mode for Vista when needed, but it's still not working. Can anybody fix this please?

Have your checked your Firewall and made sure that it's set to let these programs through?
Are you clean from Spyware/adware and viruses?

That's a very good question! I'm not too sure that I'm clean from bugs, etc.; I scanned the computer and it came out clean. However, the problem still wasn't fixed- how would I change whether my firewall(s) let them through?

mchief111, did you do a clean install of Win7 Beta, or just an upgrade?
What OS, if an upgrade, were you using?

Also, I'd recommend performing another scan of your system using a tool you've never installed on this machine before - just because your current AV / AM solution says you're clean doesn't assure you that you are....it could very well be infected as well....

Also, what is your default browser, and have you adjust any permissions on any folders anywhere, or else taken ownership of any files, folders, or registry keys, or else have you perchance disabled any settings on your router (provided that you use one) that might be necessary to do this?

Well, I had Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080425-1930). I then installed the W7 beta from the Microsoft website (after they restored the servers :P).

My default browser is Firefox, although it would be Chrome if I could get that inprocess-plugins fix to work. I haven't toyed around with the user settings and administration allowances that I can remember, though I might have accidentally (don't have too much experience there).

Let's see if MBam finds anything...

download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop
    |MG| Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.34

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location. Copy and Paste that log into your next reply. Use the [ QUOTE] [ /QUOTE] tags to post the .txt log

Since you are using a Beta OS, I would suggest that you wipe your system and do a clean install.

As I said in another post, our "specialized" tools don't work with Win 7. I'm quite sure there are more infections on this machine ... possibly even a data stealer Bot.

We could run several more scanning tools, that won't 'fix' anything, but it would be a waste of time for both of us at this point.

When you have "clean" installed Win 7, I would suggest that you get an Antivirus program Such as the 'free' Avira Antivirus.

    Follow Jacee's instructions carefully.

Also for your info, these trojans are commonly found in false CODEC downloads, mainly by users getting some media files thru P2P and then having a popup tell them they can't play/watch it wothout a certain codec, so beware from now on if this sounds like you...
If a Codec pack like Shark007.net - Windows 7 Codecs doesn't have a codec to play any file, you can pretty much assume it's a possible fake and probably an infection.
Of course there are other ways to get this type of infection but I've found that this is the most prevelant.
