In addition to a good firewall and malwarebytes, you should also be using MSE, Microsoft Security Essentials. Without the use of all the protection software that I have mentioned, there will be a big hole in your computer protection.

Excuse me richc46 but he already has a preferred AV which is Avast 5.0. If you want to monitor the outgoing connections with Windows Firewall you may want to use this to tighten up your security:

Windows 7 Firewall Control : Sphinx Software

Hope I helped!

Pardon my intrusion
Just want to add something the Windows Firewall has both Inbound and Outbound in Windows 7 IMO we really don't need a Firewall other than Windows.

More info: What's new in the Windows 7 Firewall?

Hope this helps,
Captain

hi !

yes, Windows Firewall CAN block outgoing connections.
but the problem is that it doesn´t block by default, you have to create rules, which requires a lot of work.

i´ve done some tests on different firewalls, and WF has a lot of leaks.

With the Spinx Firewall Control are the leaks plugged? I am not knowledgeable enough to configure outgoing protection on WF on my own. It is thenoutgoing that I nam concerned about. Incoming is handled well by my router's firewall. Should I use WF in conjuction with Spinx or use a third party firewall instead of WF?
