    Norton Internet Securuty 2009

Can anyone help, i've tried MANY times to install Norton Internet Security 2009. Sometimes it works but other times it locks up my laptop.

After installation, mouse navigation works as usual but activating programs & files just stops (e.g. click the internet explorer icon or windows explorer icon & nothing happens). I try to restart & laptop takes about 5 mins to shut down but not with the shutdown screen, just a black screen with mouse pointer.

Once rebooted, windows loads but then just displays a black screen with mouse pointer. Not even a logon screen. The only thing to do is switch off and select boot (F8) and choose Last Known Good Configuration. But Norton fails to initialise.

    Any ideas

I'm using W7 build 7057. (I realise this is still evaluation software but NIS 2009 is the best i've found so far).

    Cheers all

I am having the same exact issue. the only way to get back into windows after installing is in safe mode and uninstalling. also build 7057.

It may be incompatible with this build?
I am not sure but one of my friends here will soon let you know if I'm wrong. :)

Norton Internet Security 2009 just recently updated from version 16.2.0.7 (which generally worked fine) to 16.5.0.135.

The new version isn't exactly working too hot with some installations of Windows 7, particularly the 7057 build.

You can try to uninstall and reinstall the older 16.2.0.7 build of NIS, but within 48 hours or so they're likely to start pushing the new update in and cause problems again.

Similar issues are occuring with Norton 360 v3.

    They are aware of it:
Win 7057 updated to NIS 2009 16.5.0.135 now black screen - Windows 7 Beta Compatibility - Norton Community

Anyway, the only fix for now seems to be uninstalling (in safe mode) and likely running the Norton Removal Tool, and finding something else or doing without.

I have been using NIS for the last 2 build I have installed, 7000 and 7057, and it has worked flawlessly on my HP pc. I never even noticed till now that NIS updated itself to the 16.5.0.135. version.

Why do people still insist on using Norton?? I've had to repair too many PC's that have been borked by that crap. I always have the latest version of NRT on my thumbdrive to whack that junk.
