So I found this as I was trying to find out how to send a false positive to McAfee Avert Labs and was intrigued so I tried it.

McAfee Active Protection

I was first puzzled by its description so I googled it and found out it was actually the Artemis Technology. Here's the article I read about from McAfee:

McAfee, Inc. Reinvents Computer Security

After reading that I was so impressed and tried it. I was not contented of how McAfee secures my PC so I needed to find a way to boost it's protection. When the installation was completed I downloaded some fresh Malware from the Malwarebytes forum and was surprisingly startled as how McAfee blocked off almost every malware I downloaded. I accept any criticism from anybody who hates McAfee but I was proven that I might stick with this one for a while. I am open to any opinions on what I have found. ;)

If I can remember correctly, in newer versions of Mcafee Security centre you should already have Artemis preinstalled. And have settings where you configure it (on that install you were talking about, you can't configure it), So there shoulnd't be any need to additionally install it.
But I can't remember clearly. Maybe they have implemented Artemis only for some products.
But I don't think so, I think all McAfee now have Artemis preinstalled eventhough they don;t have configurations.

Artemis is very good addition to McAfee but it's is known for it's relatively high false positives rate.
Basically, Artemis is cloud scanner. If scanner detects something suspicious it will send it to the cloud scan and scan it there.
Detctions from Artemis will be called Artemis! and some new generated number or something like this. So actually you will know that it was detected by Artemis.
