    Forefront and Defender

I installed Forefront and then uninstalled Defender (from programs). I still see an entry in my services for defender. I disabled it. But update is still downloading up dates for it. I unchecked them but it still tried to download them (they are marked as "failed"). Where shall I look to stop this.

Forefront is working as it should be.

Because Defender is part of the OS, you cannot remove it completely, much like Internet Explorer.

If you have another anti-virus program, it will disable Defender.

It is strange since windows update should have stopped looking for updates to defender after you install something like forefront.
Like Jonathan said, the antivirus program should disable defender.
Go to your start menu and type in troubleshoot. Use the windows update troubleshooter and try your best to reset your windows update because it seems to be messed up :)

    Solved I believe

I ran my system repair disk and on the reboot everything appears normal. Forefront is operating and Defender is disabled. I ran update and it did not try to update Defender. I not sure how I screwed up but it's fixed.

That is where I screwed up I was trying to delete part of the operating system. Thanks for tipping me off.
