    Windows Firewall Stopped

The Windows Firewall has stopped running and I cannot restart it. I first noticed this after I had run Windows update for Windows 7 Home Premium to load an Intel Display update and a Real Audio update which seemed pretty benign. I have tried starting the firewall from the Services screen but still will not start. I tried a restore point before the Windows update but no help. I removed the TrendMicro Internet Security Pro but no help.

I knew I was going to need to upgrade from Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional (32-bit) so I went ahead and did that hoping it would fix the Firewall issue. Process was quick as advertized but the Windows Firewall is still stopped and will not restart.

I had installed Trend Micro Internet Security Pro without its firewall while it was W7 Home Pre. since I prefer using the Windows firewall so I reinstalled TMISP with the firewall this time. I now can use the TMSP firewall but cannot start the Windows Firewall even with the TMISP firewall off. I believe I have a registry issue.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you try enabling Windows firewall through the Control Panel? You should only run one firewall at a time. Running both will cause system errors and conflicts.

I went to the control panel first. It will not let you open the Firewall app but gives you the option to restore the recommended settings. That does not work. Only when that didn't work did I try to restart the "Windows Firewall" Service.
