    Recommendations on My Security Setup

    My security setup is Avast Anti-virus and Comodo Free Firewall. I also have CCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (not on-demand, just for backup scans). I have disabled the Windows Firewall through Control Panel (should I disable it in services.msc also?). Now in the Action Center it shows for Antispyware programs I have Windows Defender, Avast Anti-Virus and Comodo Defense + running. Obviously having these three running for antispyware is too much (slows down system), so should I disable Windows Defender (in services.msc also?). I also have UAC at the default level should I disable it or lower it with my security setup, assuming my setup is safe enough. Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi there "boost3d", I used to have the same setup for my Win XP Pro SP3. Great defense system that didn't bother me to reinstall WinXP for almost 2 years. I found it very light even on 512MB machine too. As for your slowing downs, I believe it's the processor that lakes the muscle to take on the new Growing protection engines. Since the net-top is meant to run on such configuration, I'd suggest you turn of the Windows Defender as Avast has AntiSpyware build in, so no need to spare extra memory & processing power. Overall, you defense setup is perfectly good. Good Luck, CHEERS!

    Hallo boost3d, My setup is pretty much the same I use Defender for the occasional on demand scan but do not use it for Resident protection, you can disable Resident protection from within defender itself;

    Attachment 52661

    I also just use only Comodo Firewall, not Defense+ . You can disable Defense+ from your taskbar icon.

    Attachment 52662

    If you choose to disable Defense+ it is totally your choice, dont do so because i dont use it.

    I find Avast & Malwarebytes sufficient for my needs, everybodys needs are different depending on what they use the Internet for.

    Hope this is of some help

    That is way over board and to many of the same programs running at the same time. Not neded at all.

    Just grad Norton Suite 2010 and your good to go. Very lightweight and picks up all of the above. With live update it works great as well and nothing squeezes by it really. And trust me, if your one of those ones that say you will never use norton again. Well i was one also. Until i tested this software 2010 and 2009. Lets just say it this way. I went back. No questions asked.

    Also just so you know. Its not good to run more the one antivirus at the same time. Your not suppose to really. They will and conflic with each other. Plus will miss picking up things because of that as well not to mention kinda of wasteless so....

    Run that what i said, and windows defender when needed just for an extra scan.. etc etc.. and you'll be great.

    Thanks for the tips guys. I disabled Windows Defender (resident protection) and also Comodo Defender + and let Avast Anti-virus monitor antispyware alone.
