CryptoLocker & CBT Locker, etc. Defense Against Programs; Any ?

Hello,

About to purchase a new desktop PC, and am really worried about this.

Several months ago I was infected with that CBT (or is it CTB ?) Locker mal ware.
Possibly called CryptoLocker, or something like that.

I don't mind paying for a really good program, and will undoubtedly use
AVG (anything you folks think is much better ?) for the common variety.

But would sure like to prevent these "ransom" types of trojans again.

Is there any program out there that Specifically is known to offer a really good defense against these ?
I've written to a few, but nobody answers specifically, if they bother answering at all.

Any thoughts and comments would be most appreciated.

Also: MBAE Premium + MBAM Premium are 2 other good products.
Their role in blocking ransomware attacks is explained here
You would need the paid, Premium version of MBAM for real-time protection.
The free version of MBAE will protect your browsers; the paid, Premium version of MBAE will protect other vulnerable applications.

Note: The software used is better suited to advanced users as configuration is an issue. Basically it blocks any unsigned or suspicious executable and scans with multiple AV's and gives a file safety report - then you can allow it to run if you are happy.

Also note: Cryptolocker and similar often arrive via email attachments (PDF. ZIP)

So make sure that you've got Windows set to block opening of email attachments if your onboard security fails to scan them.

This is not configured by default.

I cannot see your system specs so do not know which version of Windows 7 you are running. Local Group Policy Editor is only available in the Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise editions.
