MSE messing with my e-mail client?

Could MSE be refusing connections that Thuderbird is trying to make to my mail servers? Ever since I installed MSE, my Thuderbird times out of GMail connection and no longer connects to my University's mail server.

My MSE has the default settings as of now.

Hi Eamon, there is a possibility although the best candidate would be the firewall, not MSE. Have you tried disabling them to see if it works then?

You know what? I bet you're right. It's probably the Windows Firewall. I'm trying just having Windows Firewall, MSE and Malwarebytes defend my new computer. My other machines have always used Norton.

Could someone point me in the direction of something that shows how to configure Windows Firewall to allow Thunderbird to connect to specific servers?

Eamon, first disable it and see if the problem goes away. Drilling holes in the firewall always increase your vulnerability.
I am not at my Win7 computer right now, so there might be differences, but there should be a tab with "Exceptions" in the Firewall. Just add Thunderbird to it.

I turned off Windows Firewall, but the connection to the University's mail server was still refused (i assume that the server refused it so I'll check with them). As for gmail, who knows.

Now I'll try disabling the MSE and see what that produces.

Disabling MSE didn't work either. My guess is has something to do with my server settings / configuration for the servers I'm trying to attach to. I'll check my settings and check with the hosts.

Thanks for your help. I think we can say that Firewall and MSE are not the culprits and that this thread is solved.

Check with your University too. They may be able to help you configure your email client with their server.
