What do you think about the new avast?

Hey, I was going to download avast, and when I went to the website I saw the had a new "version" of it out, and that it is supposedly completely different from the old one, I also heard it crashes a lot. What do you guys think?

Have just returned to avast after some testing of alternates - 5.0 seems better than 4.8 in both look and feel and functionality (scheduling is the big one), also have had no issues or crashes on win7 pro x64

I run it on XP SP-2 machines and a new W7 machine without any problems at all.

It's amazing how some of the very best software is free

Me too. I been AV-less for some years now. Avast was my last AV in use. I read reviews on the new look and feel of 5 and decided to give it a try. I first went with all shields and was impressed with how light it really is. I rolled back a snapshot and decided to go with just the File and Behaviour shield instead. I'm keeping it for now.

I think it's brilliant and always have done. Take a look at the Avast thread also.

I'm going to have agree with this. At least for me and my setup and I know it can be different for others. MSE for me has been the worst.

I like it, the webshield has saved me twice in the last 6 months when clicking on what appeared to be Innocent google links (first one was the 4.8 build & the second time was Avast 5)

    .
Version 5 is a significant step forward from 4.8 IMHO - improved on every level, especially the UI which finally makes sense. Every system is a little (or a lot) different though, so why not install it and check it out? That's the only way to see how it will behave on your system.

I change from a full kaspersky internet security 2010 (3 years license still active) to a one year of Kaspersky Internet Security.

Less resource hog, doesn't cap my internet speed, the only incovenient im havin is the blocking and crashing of novia suite 2.1 however the nokia suite is very buggy.

Another think is that limits stanza connections between the pc and the ipod.
