Windows 7: Should I worry?

Should I worry?

Today I noticed my ram usage was slightly higher than usual, its usually ~25% but today it was at 31%. So I opened up task manager to see what program was malfunctioning and I noticed there was two Explorer.exe processes running! One of the processes was using about 28mb of so and the other was using about 5-6mb.

So I restarted the computer, and the smaller Explorer.exe is nowhere to be seen. I also read that windows has a feature to where you can have all explorer windows run as their own process, however when I checked the feature was not enabled.

Anyways, I am now running a full scan with MSE and I will follow up with a scan with Malwarebytes. Problem is... I run a quick scan everyday and a full scan at least once a week. I also have no-script and adblock installed on firefox. I also make sure to scan all installers before installing them.

The only change I have made to my computer today was installing this program to try out.

But I scanned the file with both MSE and Malwarebytes before installing. Plus lifehacker is a reputable site, so I am sure they checked the file as well.

I have also noticed lately that 7 takes a bit longer to start, and has a considerable amount of lag when opening certain programs especially right after first starting. despite the fact I have not installed any utility programs recently.

If you ran malwebytes and an anti virus, you should be ok.

Type event viewer, in search and see if there are any errors.

You can, also, try a clean boot, which will help you determine why your boot is slow.

MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Not all that glitters is gold.

Your post actually answered your question. The new program is the source of the new behaviour.

Of course, you created a restore point before installing any new program so that you can easily revert back to the way things were before you installed the program.

Thanks for the tips, just restored back to a restore point I made earlier today which made the system a bit faster. Also apparently itunes decided to re-enable its and quicktimes auto-start again... After disabling the two again my pc is now considerably less laggy when starting.
