Microsoft Security Essentials good?

I just reinstalled Vista Ultimate SP2 on a friends laptop and downloaded MSE from Microsoft. I tried 3 times to install it but continually got an error and hence it wouldn't install. I gave up and put Avast 5 on it for her. Oh well, I tried.

Did you get the right version for the OS and x86/x86-64?

Myself, I go for the one that performs the best on a regular basis
Same here and personally, I can't use MSE. I'm in the bunch that has problems with it's performance. Very high cpu on desktop loading for a minimum of six minutes, updates when received maybe every other third day also cause high cpu for the duration of the update, opening folders with alot of files/icons carries the same high cpu in addition to taking said folder a forever of time to load. Best advice for anyone wanting to know is to try it on for size and see how it works with their setup. Chances are that it will work fine. I just happen to be in the good company of the many others out there which had the same problems as I mentioned.

Stating that he got an error and didn't state what the error was? FUD...

What error was it? Previous antivirus removed with a removal tool?
