UAC Notifications
How do you tell W7 to recognize software so that you do not get a pop-up for the same software over and over? I did have it turned down lowest setting but you lose IE protected mode.

AS far as I know the UAC setting determine if you get the pop up. That is one of the complaints about Windows 7. I, however, find it a small price to pay for the additional security.
Brand new laptop here with W7 pre-installed and have to admit - despite my fears when attending this forum when I still only had my old xp laptop - I actually have no problems with UAC; like rich said, small price to pay and actually quite reassuring.
There really isn't an option to say, "please don't notify me about this application". It would almost defeat the purpose as now that application could silently escalate at any point without you knowing about it and that could be a serious security issue for some.
Hmmmm!
It gives a pop up about itself, when u consider...................................
A couple of options
1) Home :: Smart UAC Replacement
This one has been slammed by security buffs as coming from a source with a semi shady past. It can be found on all the major trust worthy downloading sites. I tried it for about a week and found the latest version to be perfectly stable and quite useful. At the time of testing, I was running Malware Defender, Threatfire, MSE and Windows 7 Firewall Control Plus. Didn't observe any trickery during that time.
2) Elevated Program Shortcut without UAC Prompt - Create
3) The Application Compatibility Toolkit

TY,
Now this was the type of answer I was hoping for. I believe #2 is the one for me, I just need to check it out closely before I leap. #1 Looks like software you pay for and buying W7 Ultimate was enough.
UAC triggers on itself, on two of the puters monitoring software I use which increases the boot time considerably, on the online game I play. For something that is suppose to help with web surfing protection, it interferes with non internet surfing functions.
Thanx again for a useful response.
