MSE is probably a very good product because you are guaranteed to not get bsod because of it.

Besides, who's better to protect an OS than the engineers/company that designed it in the first place?

As I always say, stay far far away from AVG. I've never seen a bsod from NOD32 or whatever that is, nor Avast. So those may be safe bets too.

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security with integrated Kaspersky is excellent. Please note, I am speaking specific to this exact product and not other versions. That's neither intended as good nor bad.

How does someone filter out all the different opinions. I am fairly new at this and have had at five member suggest different anti virus programs. I would think that it is just personal preferences.

Only the Proactive is old, besides, Kaspersky is still at the top on the new one.
Cheers Kaspersky user, you'll realize when you have KIS2010 on your PC.

Last year, I was a Windows Vista 32-bit user and hadn't used an antivirus or antispyware solution, except Windows Defender and my laptop had not been infected by a virus. I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 64-bit, which this antivirus does handle viruses, trojans and spyware very well for being "free"!

How did you know that your laptop had not been infected by any virus? Have you check it with other AV?
