Most Antivirus programs are resource hogs. If you run two at the same time, they will fight each other for your system's resources and they most likely will fight each other's definitions.
It is best to only have one Antivirus program on your computer and periodically run online scans using another vendor.
    Thats right.
The key word here is "conflicts"

and of the two, AVG is not very good.

I would run NOD32 4, and If you need to, run an online scanner/cleaner.

here is a list of the legitmate online and free scanners that I compiled:

Of course running and additional program is going to use more resources. That's a given.
As far as definitions fighting with each other, I just don't see it. Maybe both of them trying to alert you of a threat yeah.

I don't run any AV myself. I just thought "running two AV's is a bad, bad idea" ( my emphasis) was a little exaggerated.

Never, ever run more than 1 anti-virus,(nor firewall or pop-up blocker for that matter) at the same time as it is a surefire way of getting infected as two rival engines will fight each other.

Ask any of the major malware forums for an opinion and they will all tell you that.

Believe me, I've been a moderator at McAfee Security Forums for years and I've seen the result.

You can, however, run anti-virus alongside some anti-spyware applications.

In addition to my McAfee I use SpywareBlaster and one or two others.

As for not running any anti-virus at all, well, good luck with that.

    Nod 32 + Avg :)
Rather a bad idea. One or the other. NOD32 is my choice. Tested AVG and its logs are rather annoying an get rather large.

    Your running XP/Win7
You have heard of drive-by-downloads and clickjacking, right?
"Safe Surfing" wont help you there...

ten, we encourage people who own computers to have a firewall, an up to date antivirus and a good antispyware program installed and functunal. You may not think *you* need one, but other people may need to be safe from you!

Your vulnerability to infections is contagious to another person's computer .... SDBots love your type of computing.

I use Avast + Threatfire. Two AV's that work symbiotically. Great protection.

I use the Technical Preview of Kaspersky's AntiVirus for Windows 7:
    Windows 7
Before that I always used Avira Antivir and ZoneAlarm, but ZoneAlarm doesn't work on Win7...
The Technical Preview is for free so i thought why not? Kaspersky is not the worst AV/Firewall so i installed it and it is working (I hope it is )
