I installed antispywarebot and scanned my pc with Vipre, NOD32 and MBAM. They all detected it. However, when I scanned it using MSE, it caught nothing. Does this prove that MSE is a bad antispyware program?
Depends if you had any faith in Windows Defender, because that's the engine that powers MSE, at least on the anti-spyware side of things.

If that's the case, then MSE sucks in dealing with spyware.

And im not so sure that I would classify it as spyware, as I dont believe it collects any information, nor does it effect your computer directly, other than try to scam you out of your money... Im sure someone will correct me if Im wrong....

Hi Tews, after running a quick scan, it changed the IE homepage to some other website. I opened taksmgr and was surprised to see that its using around 250 MB to slow down my pc. Also, it gives pop ups to buy their software and when you click the Buy button, it opens a webpage which falsely claims it as Verisign Secured. So I guess these symptoms do classify it as a malware IMHO.

The trick is to know what to believe and what not to...was it advertised as a free download?

Yes it was advertised as a free antispyware. Also, I'd like to make you aware that a fake Antivirus which exactly looks like Mcafee is out. Its called as MaCatte Antivirus 2010. Their webpage looks exacely like us.mcafee.com

    Beware.

There are only 3 I would recommend!

1- Kasper Interent Security 2010 (if you are using 32 bit)
2- BitDefender Internet Security 2010 (if you are using 64 bit)
3- Latest ESET NOD (there are a 32 bit version and a 64 bit verson)

I strongly recommend KIS 2010 for 32 bit and BDIS 2010 for 64 bit.

Microsoft Security Essentials is by far the best antivirus software for Windows 7.

And what about the spyware which are more in number than viruses out there? Read my posts above how MSE fails to detect Antispywarebot.
