That's encouraging! I'm not knocking Avast at all there. But to keep the AVG toolbar on you know how that goes.

The retail version of AVG not AVG Pro sees a 2yr. license on that. You registry once and then let that run out unless offered an upgrade when the next build is available or the time is running out.

I'll likely be trying Avast again on the 64bit to see how that goes since I'm currently running the 32bit as default with IE seeing the toolbar there.

For the 64bit versions of XP, Vista, and 7 beta you could sum up things simply right from Grisoft's own UK site.

"No 64-bit and server support — AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition cannot be installed on server operating systems(such as Windows Server 2003), nor can it be used for the scanning of network drives. Also Windows XP Pro x64 edition is not supported." AVG Free Edition - What You Don't Get...

That's truely sad there! The US support site/faqs page shows something different besides the way the blue text came out in the post here.

The AVG Rootkit scanner does work with Win 7 64 bit, Internet Security Suite.
Here is mine in action .
Dunno why some people get so emotionally attached to AV programs . I once have a guy threaten me with violence for not wanting to install his preferred prog. LOL

You likely are seeing better results for the anti-rootkit tool there then many have seen. The thing Grisoft is covering is not just 7 64bit however but XP and Vista 64bit editions as well where the problem may be present. None of that is directed at 7 this early in the game.

Gee? emot shun all E tachment... Here the AVG free edition is simply what has been used for some time since dumping others like McAfee fee sneeze and Symantec bloatware.

You can try the beta version of Eset, there's a 64bit version as well and it's free with upgrades during it's beta period.

Using Avast free despite having an AVG subscription. AVG is slacking on performance.

For retail go with AVG Pro or Trend Micro's antivirus not the basic. Performance? With the free edition on here I haven't noticed any performance problems with anything due to AVG itself.

When loading up a bunch of gadgets that's when it stalls things at shutdown or simply a quick? restart. More like 5minutes and counting! Wait and wait and wait for each to close out.
