MSE is good though it does a great job.
MSE is probably a very good product because you are guaranteed to not get bsod because of it.
Besides, who's better to protect an OS than the engineers/company that designed it in the first place?
As I always say, stay far far away from AVG. I've never seen a bsod from NOD32 or whatever that is, nor Avast. So those may be safe bets too.
ZoneAlarm Extreme Security with integrated Kaspersky is excellent. Please note, I am speaking specific to this exact product and not other versions. That's neither intended as good nor bad.
How does someone filter out all the different opinions. I am fairly new at this and have had at five member suggest different anti virus programs. I would think that it is just personal preferences.

Hi. That's why the rep system was created and is used on the forum.
The best, zero-day security, sophisticated, looks nice, fully customizable, interactive, reasonably resource use, most award winning, and malware-unforgiving anti-virus suit is.....
Last year, I was a Windows Vista 32-bit user and hadn't used an antivirus or antispyware solution, except Windows Defender and my laptop had not been infected by a virus. I use Microsoft Security Essentials on my Windows 7 64-bit, which this antivirus does handle viruses, trojans and spyware very well for being "free"!
