I wouldn't say any is better for Win7 than XP, or Vista.

I use avast free edition. My PCs haven't gotten sick once with this app.

avast! - Download antivirus software for spyware and virus protection

Actually there is no one "best" antivirus program since 7 is still in beta form. Avast was tried on 7 here and later replaced by the free version of AVG. The first run of AVG saw 7 lock up solid. Later once updates became available AVG began to run as it would on XP or Vista.

For retail AVG Pro, Kaspersky, Trend Micro, NOD32, and a few others make the preferred lists. The best if you are intending to run a retail product not advised for any beta at this time would be to try out the shareware versions of each to see which one runs the best on your system.

I've used Norton, Kaspersky, AVG and other antivirus programs but guess what?

I'm using Avast on my setup and it's been nothing short of wonderful

Note: Yes, I've tried those all in Windows 7 and Avast, as far as performance and reliability is concerned did not fail any on any of the things I put this computer through. And best of all, its FREE! Now, how can you beat that?

I've been keeping the free edition of AVG and the IE security on here since the betas still lack many of the security fixes that will be seen once the next version is out. The toolbar's protection there will bring flags right up when coming across any site trying to put a trojan on where the IE back button gets you out of that fast.

But you need to have AVG on in order to use it. Avast saw it removed when that was installed. Besides antivirus you may want to try out one or two other malware/adware removers. Spyware terminator is one that will place a guard on the registry and prompt like Vista's UAC on just about anything at times. Free spyware removal and spyware protection - Spyware Terminator

The next step here is trying out all this on the 7 64bit beta to what will go on and run well there.

I used AVG, and I agree it good also, and you can also get that for free without having to register every year like avast.

But, Avast is solid, I have installed it directly and indirectly on about 30 computers from my family, friends and co-workers. So much less calls that there PC is running slow.

    Been using it a little over a year now. I haven't seen any problems in Win7 32 & 64
