Often you wouldn't expect two av program to work well together. When first going to try out VIPRE having to remove AVG I was able to reinstall AVG without seeing any problems afterwards with any software clashes.

But I soon found out how well VIPRE worked out here and simple dumped AVG entirely no longer having any need for that or any of the other programs I had been using. While those two still worked together it still wouldn't be something to advise for anyone else.

can you upload that to paypreview or YouTube!

For most when going to try out a new av program the installer for a good program will automatically prompt the user to remove the first program before it will proceed. The new detects old and prompts the user automatically. That's something you expect to see with the better programs anyways.

Here when going to reinstall AVG and found AVG went on it was to see how VIPRE would react as far as detection as well as any expected clash of wares and to a relief it detected AVG as a safe program as it should and still went to work quietly in the background without any clashes seen.

It also showed how it was far better written to find things in the background other programs might miss entirely since AVG apparently didn't prompt when VIPRE was already on as it should have. Note that was for the AVG Free not retail or Pro version for business.

The problem again with reviews even by PC World, it's sister site ComputerWorld, and any of the other online mags is the limited number of programs they compare. Eventually you have to look at each individual program to learn just where it's strengths and weaknesses are as far as detection and removal along with a look at overall performance.

Well for what it is worth the mags out here are IMHO heavily "biased" towards Norton. Now take that for what you will but it does seem odd that mags hand out free licences for Norton and a lot of computers and boards come bundled with this software as well.

It may be quite alright for some but I do object to anything bundled - period and see that Norton for whatever reason is usually the security part of bundling. That's why I like building my own but even so use a board like Gigabyte and there it is raring to go, they must spend an awful lot of money getting these people to bundle their stuff.

For the record and everyone probably knows by now I have had some pretty ordinary dealings with Norton in the past and just don't like it for performance or usability.

As for the mags well I just buy them on a one off basis now because of the poor quality and minimal quantity of the material in them and the ratio of ads to editorials.

The article I linked to PCW used this AV-TEST - The Independent IT-Security Institute: Home independent German organization to do the tests on many security suites. They published the top 10 results only.

Yup bundling is what many big companies do in an effort to sell their wares. One PC maker has had both Norton and McAfee trials installed. How dumb is that?
