The Best Anti-Virus IMO is

1. Keep Windows and all your other programs up to date.
2. Don't play on the Net where Malware tends to hang out.
3. Clean your temp and cache files each day when done browsing.
4. Don't open any downloaded files directly. Rather save and scan them first.
4. Don't open any email attachments unless you know the sender and are expecting an email from him/her with an attachment.

After that all the leading AVs are about equal enough IMO it is a matter of personal taste as to GUI and ease of use.

Yes, very true. However malware is showing up just about everywhere now and soon it will be like swimming with sharks

I personally use MSE and free MBAM for scanning. All is good and haven't had any issues. You dont need to dish out hot dollar in order to have decent security. And of course, common sense is the best way to avoid hiccups

I have been using the free Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE, which has the core engine of Microsoft Forefront) and Malwarebytes (MBAM) for on-demand scanning, but I've just been introduced to a new product from Microsoft for on-demand scanning of advanced malware and rootkits: Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper (beta): Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper Beta | Microsoft Connect. Haven't used it personally yet, but a student of mine swears by it, says he cleaned up a mess this morning with it.

I would say the best anti-virus prog. is the one that keeps your system clean by not allowing any viruses onto it.

Unfortunately it hasn't been invented yet.

That sounds like a great tool for someone who is already infected. I'll have to read some more about it.

I've been using Trend Micro for a couple of years now. I just upgraded from the 2010 version to the 2011 one, nd despite the reviews, I think it's great! It does the job well and whenever I download an infected file, it quarantines it. I reccomend it to anyone that has some money to spare.

The best AV is the one you personally believe in. Which may/may not be one we believe in.
Personally believe in Norton.

Test your anti-malware/anti-virus protection with EICAR
As many of you know(quite a few don't) what EICAR is, this is a open poll to see what programs pick it up and what programs fail the basic tests. I am conducting this poll because A-Squared failed to see this on a scan, but MSE picked it up before it could be downloaded. So after you take...
