I'm using Avast Free Antivirus and I randomly scan my PC using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (Free).
Apart from the occasional "false positive"(?) from Avast, I haven't noticed any issues.

Hi:
Now that you have upgraded to Win 10, you might want to continue your discussion at tenforums.com?
For one thing, your mention of "Windows Defender" appears to have confused at least one Win 7 user here. (Windows Defender in Win 7 is NOT an anti-virus; Windows Defender in Win 8 and 10 is.)
Also, this *is* "sevenforums.com" -- so you will get more specific, Windows-10-related advice over there.
One last clarification re: Malwarebytes products:
MBAE Free provides real-time protection for browsers. MBAE Premium offers more options, including more default shields and the ability to create custom shields for other applications.
MBAM Free is only a manual, on-demand scanner that only REMOVES malware that already got past your AV onto the system. MBAM Premium provides complementary, layered protection alongside your AV to help PREVENT malware infection in the first place.
Cheers!
thank you for all of that info MoxieMomma. :)
just sayin, I hadn't posted here in many moons.
and then a couple days ago I got an email that someone had posted in the thread.
I hope I am not being impolite or being a pain, by continuing to reply to posts.
I am sincerely grateful to you and everyone who has helped me with problems over the years.
truly nice people here.
:)
Security Essentials is one of the most Windows friendly anti-virus I have come across, and it's free, that's why I recommend that.

It doesn't say when it expires, but likely 1 year
A Guy
I've been using ESET for a while and do not complain. If something dangerous appears the AV block it or advise me to not to proceed.
I have not used the MBAM because I fear that eliminates any sensitive file system. I know it sounds weird.
Hi:
I'm sorry, but I don't quite understand what that means.
If you wish, could you please explain?
Perhaps we can try to set your mind at ease about that concern.
