Yes well this discussion has gone on for as long as I can remember and really it does depend on who is typing thet stuff intot the machine because no AV is infallible simply because with 50K new malwares each day each one needs picking up and analyzing before it can be blocked and unless a staff member on the AV firm can move at near light speed then there will be a lot of stuff that goes merrily on it's way.

Personally I have had Kaspersky on six machines (and more ) over the last fives years and of course it misses stuff show me one that doesn't Those sites that do the testing would be using different techniques to find malware and anyone would always find differences in the results they put out. I go by AV Comparatives and Matousec simply because I find they are adequate and I really don't have the time or interest in chasing down the different testing sites.

Anyone who saw the recent documentary involving the Westboro church and Anonymous could plainly see nothing is safe even though we like to think so.

So really this is a topic that will have no actual outcome and it really has gone on for too long.

Again the only good AV is the user and when one sees what some do well iy really is no wonder we keep discussing this topic - in my link to Gizmo the sheer amount of AV stuff is staggering and there is still no absolute winner.

I would go on to ay that even Microsofy seem to have got in on the act now with Windows 10 and all that guff about privacy - so just how safe are you??

I am using Comodo internet security on my laptop now. used it before on my old desktop before I got an apple for my desktop and it never caused any problems and the system was always clean. asked a friend which av he would suggest for this laptop and he asked me which one I was thinking about, told him Comodo internet security and he said that is his first choice, recommends it to his customers and installs it on all the machines he sells

I use Microsoft security essentials,

I also run CCleaner to remove problem files etc.

Then I run malwarebytes free version and have had no problems with virus or other bugs etc.

I cant see why anyone pays for security.

Perhaps you will one day. I sincerely hope not, even though I don't know you from Adam. But your habits are far more reasonable than many peoples! I suggest that one is familiar with the shortcomings and strengths of their particular anti-malware, as well as the options available to them. This is actually FAR more important than the specific software that is being used in most cases. I do like CCleaner, although it's not a perfect program. They are not privy to all the updates that Microsoft decides to release and I have seen systems crash from running it (rarely) because of this.
If you read the details of any such software before simply relinquishing full control to it, then you will benefit more than someone that chooses the best AV-software but is clueless as to the settings or other details of what it's doing at any given time.

My personal recommendations are Microsoft's own antivirus Microsoft Security Essentials and Kaspersky Internet Security 2015. But, if you can be patient for a scan that takes like 3 hours Avira is for you. It's great, it has picked up a ton of viruses other antiviruses hasn't. This made me quite intersted, i might make a video about several antiviruses picking up like 50-100 viruses(I have quite a nice collection of viruses).

I would like also to say Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but this isn't the appropriate thread.

I ran Kaspersky Internet Security for a couple years, it's an excellent product. I'm currently trying out Bitdefender Internet Security, and so far I've been pleased with it also, and they both consistently rank high with AV Comparatives.

I would like also to say Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but this isn't the appropriate thread.

No Laith that is a fair comment as it is a much used one here mate along with a few other add ons to the main AV's.

Personally I use three MBAM SAS and ADWCleaner if I am really concerned plus the Emsisoft Emergency kit is quite good too

I haven't tried Emsisoft Emergency but i'll look into it.

I've tried SAS and ADWCleaner, both great products, i would also recommend SuperAntiSpyware, greaaaaat product.

I scan with Avast (my active AV program), then Avira (no active guard, just on demand), then Malwarebytes Premium, then SAS Pro, then Emsisoft free (you can get 30 day free trial, but I choose to just use it free from the beginning, that way no nags as the 30 days run out https://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/antimalware/). Then I make my weekly Acronis images. A Guy

Two Dewclaws up in my books, A Guy! I've use almost the identical setup on many Win7 systems. Catches pretty much everything in my experience. Have you had anything slip by (that you know of) yet using this setup?
