    Hi, panais.

First make sure that the firewall you were using previously has been disabled/uninstalled. Next, I suggest you start by resetting the default settings and see if that works. See the tutorial at Windows Firewall - Restore Default Settings.

If you're not tied to Windows Firewall, I recommend disabling it and installing Comodo Firewall (Free)

    Download Comodo Firewall

Otherwise, go through this support article and browse the others on the Microsoft site.

    Hello,

In Windows 7 you have advance Firewall when you add the rule make sure you add for both Inbould and Outbound. I guess might just added either one of them. So go ahead and add for both inbound and outbound and reboot the System one it important to reboot because sometime it reuquries the Services to restart to take effect. Follow this doucment from Firefox carefully Configuring Windows Firewall

    Hope this helps,
    Captain

@notsograymatter, I don't include Comodo in my list of recommended free firewall software programs because Comodo includes the prechecked installation of the HopSurf Toolbar (another IAC product which replaced the Ask Toolbar) and this discussion topic: Dark side of COMODO....

In my opinion going from avast! to MSE is downgrading. Independant tests show time and again that avast! out performs MSE on every level. Having said that, it's your computer so ultimately, it's up to you to decide what you use.
