    Fake Antispyware

    Fake Antispyware

F-Secure posted a blog entry about a fake antispyware called Search-and-Destroy.
The entry includes a lot of screen shots about the software and the site where users could download it. In their tests, they found out that it found 159 problems in their system. However, the software could not fix the problems in the trial version.
Under the “malicious threats” section, there were invalid shortcuts and the author of the entry acknowledges that it is correct but they are not threats that users should worry about.

    Hi darkassasin,

The reason I posted this was I and many others on this and the Vista Forums recommend Spybot S&D

I wanted to make sure that people were aware of this. I for one would not like my advice to lead a user to download this C*@p

    Hi Nigel,

I'm just going to call it Spybot - and drop the search & destroy bit, to avoid confusion - hopefully.

I know Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy (The genuine one) are the 'glamour' kids on the block, but I urge you to try - then uninstall if you no likie..

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    &
    SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition

    in the free versions.

Do a Google to find each home page.

Malwarebytes' cleaned up a nastie 'drive-by' I got that refused to let me update or contact anti-virus sites.. no kidding. It would not let me search with Google either!

    Thanks Graham,

    I Agree totally

I personally have both Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware & SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition on my machines here and run scans with both and Spybot S&D on a regular basis that is of course in addition to my resident Avast 8.4

the combination is an excellent suite of malware protection

And they're all on my toolkit disk for clients machines
