Robert, I only have one. I uninstall previous Java updates before I install the new one.

I just received this pop-up notice:

    Attachment 68264

Does anyone know what is going on here?

    Cheers!

Hey, looks like you have this fixed. However I have seen this before, typically it is because the plug-in is not compatible, due to some upgrade, JAVA, FF, another Plug-in etc. If you can upgrade it that is normally best. If not you may have to disable it. Just my 2 cents (or pence) after the fact.

Thanks Carl, I have 5 of those. So do I need to remove all but the most current JavaRE via Control Panel - Programs and Features?

    I am showing Java 6 updates 7 and 20 ...

    Cheers!

I uninstall each each older update via the Control Panel before I install the new one. I have never had old ones to remove after the new one was installed in Win 7. In XP, twice I uninstalled old ones after I had the latest installed with no problem. I ran FF on XP, too.

You can try it. The worst that could happen is you would have to uninstall Java, download and reinstall it. I would have no qualms about uninstalling them.

Uninstall all old Java ... You don't need previously installed "vulnerable" Java running on your computer and taking up space.

    Download JavaRa:
JavaRa is a simple tool that does a simple job: it removes old and redundant versions of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). Simply select "Check for Updates" or "Remove Older Version" to begin. JavaRa is free under the GNU GPL version two.

Yes you should remove all the old versions of Java. The new versions are inclusive and is all you require. In the past the update process would not uninstall the older versions. That was changed, if I remember correctly, around version 6u10 but not sure. After updating also check your browser add-ons to be sure they only have the new version. You can also check Control Panel, Java and see if that is also updated.

It didn't auto-update because, although the update mechanism is improved, it is slow to provide update notice.

You shouldn't have 5 versions of Java Console -- only for SE 6u20. Any other versions should be disabled. (I've also disabled the Toolkit.) I suggest checking Add/Remove programs for any older versions of Java installed and run JavaRa as suggested (although it hasn't been updated since SE 6u15).

BTW, Adobe Acrobat also appears as though it should be updated. See Adobe - Security Bulletins: APSB10-09 - Security update available for Adobe Reader and Acrobat. Update here: Adobe - Acrobat : For Windows

Thank you for that Corrine ... I'll do that now.

    You're very welcome.

(@All: Beware of showing Jacee or me details of what is installed on your computer. We're likely to tell you that you need to update/uninstall something or another. )
