I want to use my router as a firewall - Please Help

    I don't know if this matters, but I have a D-Link Model: DI-624M.

I would like to be asked on all outgoing and incoming internet actions.

I attached the page of the instruction manual if that helps, it sure didn't help me.

    Thanks!!

There'll be no 'ask' feature on it. You'll have to set it to block all + allow specified.

DC7, I also have questions about how to set up a router this way. I thought they acted as a firewall by their very nature. I guess this is not completely correct. I will be following this thread. I hope someone helps you. Good luck.

You can get a free version of Firewall control that will work with Win7 and Windows Firewall:
Vista Firewall Control : Sphinx Software

I used this for a while on Vista until I bought a security suite. It really is best to have a software firewall running with your router.

I actually tried that and I didnt know what was going on with that either, so I uninstalled it. I think I'd enjoy knowing how to work this rounter firewall currently. Thanks for the offer.

Avira Premium Security Suite has a firewall that "asks". Sounds like you've used free ZoneAlarm in the past

Why yes I did But I'd prefer to stay away from an entire suite just for a firewall.

Ok I installed your first recommendation again and this time I made the extra effort and figured it out. It works great! Thank you. It wasn't to hard to do compared to figuring out my router firewall.

I'd still like to know how to use my router as a firewall none the less.

you cant use your home router to do that, you'd need a business class firewall to have more granular control over the traffic.
