    PC Wizard 2010 + ASK-installchecker !?

    hi !

when installing PC Wizard 2010, i got a popup from Comodoīs D+ asking if i wanted to allow PC Wizard to run ASK-installchecker!

i donīt know exactly what it is, but since ASK-toolbar is considered a security-risk i blocked it....

the installation is running right now, without the "ASK-installer", so it seems to be unnecessary....

Hi man. Did you check if Ask Toolbar is showed at Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall...?! Maybe you or someone else did install it without realizing - it came as "adware", just like google toolbar, inside some soft's installers. I think PC Wizard is one of them... Try PCW zip package an see what happens: CPUID

    Let us know the results.

    hi !

Wallonn7: "Maybe you or someone else did install it without realizing"
no, i have NOT installed it.
as i posted above i BLOCKED PC-Wizard from running ASK-installchecker, it comes bundled with the PCWizard-installer.
btw. iīm the only user on this PC, with VERY good security.
i suggest you take a good look at my signature....

Corrine: no, i believe you misunderstood my post, it has nothing to do with Comodo.
have you seen this "ASK-installchecker" before ?

ASK-installchecker comes bundled with the PCWizard-installer, so it might be a good idea to warn others before they install PCW-2010...

Hi man. I'm so sorry if my post offended you. Did not mean to underestimate you. I wanted to help, just that. I just think that nobody is free from mistakes. Just look at the case involving McAfee and Windows XP ... nVidia driver that burned some video cards ...
    I really didn't to...

no problem Wallonn7, no offense taken.

Indeed I did misunderstand! Since I don't use Comodo, when I saw the Comodo Defense, I thought this was a Comodo product.

    My apology.

Apparently it has been around at least since February. From Online Armor: AskInstallChecker.exe

Corrine: Comodo is the GOOD part in this, it was Comodoīs Defence+ that alerted me & saved my "A-S-S"...
a bit ironic, when we talk about "ASK/HopSurf-Toolbar" & "the Dark side of Comodo..."

but, no need for any apologies.
thanks for the OA-link, very interesting reading.

Didn't happen to see this during the install did you?

    PC Wizard 2010 + ASK-installchecker !?-ask.png

Not like it is trying to stealth install the Ask Toolbar. Be nice if those weren't checked and it was opt-in instead of opt-out, but the option is there whether to install it or not (and it is showing up in more and more places).

used to be the Google Toolbar that showed up, and have even seen a few programs that come bundled with some kind of Norton security scan (Shockwave at one time), and even Flash will come with one from McAfee if you don't unselect it before downloading.

stormy13: "Didn't happen to see this during the install did you?"

    no.

Comodoīs D+ alerted me before that showed up, so i blocked it.

    be nice ???

option or not, that is untrusted software which means that itīs not safe to install it !

the BIG problem with all those "Toolbars / searchpages" etc. is that they are usually prechecked during installation,
which means that most people will probably install them.

"(and it is showing up in more and more places)."

so what, i donīt care if itīs on 10000 other places, that doesnīt make it any safer does it ?
    itīs still untrusted software....
