Norton Internet Security 2011 Beta Review

OK today I installed and tested Norton Internet Security 2011 beta.

Installation is pretty simple and nothing has changed from the previous version.

The activity map shows WorldWide CyberCrime Activity of the previous 24 hrs.

Safe Web tab can check a website's reputation before you go to that website from your browser.

Quick Scan was extremely fast and took less than 30 secs.

    Operates under 30 MB RAM.

There are many more options and features available in the new Norton 2011 beta.
Will check the detections and removal of viruses later.

Norton has mainly concentrated on the product design IMO> Better effects, eye candy, etc. But its important to see how good it performs in tests.

My first install on an XP VM, it used about the same. Second install, it used about 14MB.

RAM isn't important these days on new computers. CPU and I/O read/write speeds are what count. Norton have made tremendous improvements in these areas since the 2010 versions.

From my (tiny) tests SONAR 3 is very powerful.

Just installed NIS2011 BETA over NIS2010 on our Windows 7 machine.

Computer idle/Main Norton UI open/Big Norton definitions update downloading: 17-18MB/0-5% CPU on average.
    Quick scan: 50MB
1 Firefox tab open typing this message: 10.5MB

IF you plan to uninstall it, do not uninstall it via Programs and Feaures. It will give you an error and will leave many things behind. Use Revo Uninstaller to remove Norton 2011 beta.

Thanks for the heads up but I will be reverting back to an image with just Windows and Office installed. Planned on doing it so I thought I would try N2011 BETA on Windows 7.

Does Norton know about that? I haven't seen anything in their BETA forum.

No they must not be aware of it. I have contacted them about this issue. No reply yet.

    .
You may be interested in the sale at Frys.com. They have NIS 2010 (bundled with Norton Utilities Lite and Ghost) - free after rebate. You will be able to use the key with NIS 2011.

    Hi Dinesh

Have you tried out the new NBRT USB tool?
