Locked (or rather, Blocked) files originally caused me some BSOD problems when trying to install drivers etc, downloaded from internet.

The solution is to right-click downloaded file, Properties, Unblock.
If file is not blocked, you won't see the button. (It usually appears below 'Advanced' button).
