Just one word of explanation in conducting a firewall leak test

The procedure I use, which I believe to be a valid test is to set my security at my normal level, and run the test - when I am prompted by the firewall as to how to react to an attack I select Deny (I do not choose to remember this action as I test regularly).

The users response to the firewall prompt is an integral part of the security process and must be taken into account - If a user is prompted regarding a test and then selects allow the test will show fail as the packets will leave the system but in my opinion the prompt is a pass as the correct deny response will protect the system and achieve a pass.

Unfortunately, that test is invalid for firewalls like Norton and Avast!

Could you explain why they are invalid out of curiosity?

Thanks!

For starters, by default Norton allows most(or all?) leak tests because it knows they are not malicious.

I'm sure I could find something more informative if I did a Google search but like doktornotor, I'm fed up with this nonsense.

I've been using the Comodo firewall for a couple of years , it used to have a steep learning curve the present vesion is much better in that respect. As a firewall it is very good I am using Comodo Internet security suite on Windows 7 64 bit it is free & also includes Antivirus , Defense & a Sandbox.
They also have a free System Cleaner which is very good.

I may as well re-post: Matousec Personal Firewall Tests Analyzed | The #1 bookmarked Freeware site

And add: Matousec’s Firewall Challenge wrinkle: conflict of interests? Smokey's Security Weblog
Matousec’s New Moves to Recapture the label “Trustworthy” Smokey's Security Weblog

Take what you want from GRC, Matousec and leak tests but please don't let it be on how good a firewall is at being a firewall.

Win 7 firewall fails leak test
I ran "Leak Test"(from GRC Research)on windows 7 and it fails. The test penetrated the Windows 7 firewall. How big a threat is this? I have used Zone Alarm and Comodo in the past but was hoping the 7 firewall would be adequate now. Any thoughts?

Comodo DNS
A while back, I had COMODO Firewall installed on my laptop. I had it enabled with COMODO DNS servers. It has been uninstalled from my computer now for months and today I stumbled upon a bad website and a message in the browser window came up saying COMODO DNS servers blocked that website. Is a part...
