Malware Injection Surprise

I use Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. They claim that all third party programs interfere with its detection somehow. I have Malwarebytes' Amti-Malware on my HP and ran it yesterday. It found a little over 7 pieces of malware that Kaspersky never blocked. Only one was in my Temporary Internet Files folder. All the other ones were scattered across my user account (administrator). Is this product work keeping if it lets Trojan Downloaders and other junk in like that? Malwarebytes did find 3 Trojan Downloaders, I think it also found a couple of Spyware files too. Malwarebytes didn't find any infections today. Whether there are more on the machine that it doesn't have a signature for I don't know...

Has anybody who is using KIS 2010 had this problem? I have KIS to run a Quick Scan and Update every hour so I know that it's updating.

Does anyone know of any other internet security product that has good detection, and is either strong or sturdy?

Your predicament sounds all too familiar. When I bought my Dell computer, it came free with McAfee. It blocked an average of two infections a month. My licence then expired, and I got Kaspersky, because there was a special offer, and I could get it free. My internet usage did not change, but in two years it blocked three infections, and it found another three on the system. Very unimpressive results, but I continued to use it.

I then caught some very nasty malware indeed, and after that I decided to switch. I switched to MSE and have been infinitely happier. I never liked the user interface of Kaspersky, and hated the Firewall enough to switch back to the Windows one. I urge you to try MSE at some point, even if you switch back.

If you still believe you are infected, tell us. I am currently taking a degree in Malware Removal, so I cannot help you, but there are other members who can.

In my opinion, I think Kaspersky is stopping some vital things on my system. I am trying to update my Office 2007 system and the updates keep failing from Windows Updater. I've heard Norton IS 2010 is pretty good. MSE is OK too. What I'm not happy about is Kaspersky's price for their internet security suite and what it says on the box "Premium Protection from All Malware Threats"

If it is protecting you from all malware threats, then why in the world did it allow Trojan Downloaders and other garbage into my system when it should be stopping all of that. The reason I switched to KIS 2010 was because when I got my HP laptop, Best Buy recommended KAV 2010 (which didn't do a whole lot) and had the same problem that I am having right now with all the malware injections.

No anti-virus protects 100% but you use MBAM so I'm sure you realise that.

I believe KIS is excellent (from what I read) but maybe it just doesn't suit your computer habits.

It might be time for you to read What's the Best Anti-virus?, read reviews and tests, trial software and settle on a new anti-virus.

There are also other layers of security you can look into. Many are for advanced users but there are some that are easy to use and provide excellent security, better security than an anti-virus if used correctly.

Edit: I realise my 3rd paragrah is daunting but no anti-virus protects 100%, the best is subjective and most will just recommend what they use. Unless you have a specific need, I suggest you use any of the popular anti-virus.

Hmm. Interesting. I may be looking at getting Symantec's Norton IS 2010. It sounds pretty good. :)

I downloaded a 90 day trial of Norton Internet Security 2010 and it found a lot of Trojans on my system and in my backup drive that Kaspersky failed to do anything with.
I think I have found what I am looking for as for security.

Best to use a layered approach. Kaspersky has an excellent detection rate but MBAM is great in it's own right as it detects threats and new variants of known threats that anti-virus softwares often miss. However, MBAM does not detect everything. It is designed to target certain specific classes of malware that often goes undetected or cannot be removed by anti-virus and anti-spyware products. Malwarebytes shouldnt be run only by itself for that reason, it is not meant to replace a good anti-virus software (like Kaspersky), merely to compliment your anti-virus protection and make your computer more secure.

You havent described your specific infections but my guess would be that a lot of the stuff MBAM detected were registry/file entries that were actually a part of or remaining traces of infections rather than being actual infections themselves.

But using Kaspersky and MBAM should keep your machine in good shape.
