UAC is not the same as Linux user-land, so we can't really compare both of them apple to apple, LUA is a bit closer to Linux user-land, but still differ in many ways...

pacman10, once the malware is in your system, UAC won't show any warning... because obviously it's already running... There are a lot of threads in here about virus or malware infections, none of them show any UAC warning other than apps that are started manually...

I'm with zzz on this, UAC = false sense of security. Same with A/V software for that matter.

No, UAC should not be turned off
Yes, you should run as a user and not as an admin

It's just my opinion, yeah, but it's the right one.
If you're running as user (as would always recommend) then you're already pretty bullet proof and for sure UAC is totally redundant

    that's not my opinion - it's a fact

No, not entirely fact. Yes, it is better than running full admin,, but there are things that get disabled with UAC disabled, You need to do more research.

    This is also incredibly false.

But this is a dead horse turning to goo.

Another reason to use UAC: because of UAC prompts, one may be alerted to the presence of malware that wants admin privileges, which may spur one to initiate an on-demand malware scan - the malware may otherwise have gone unnoticed and continued to do bad things.

Personally, I like it. At first it was a pain in the neck. Then, after reading a bit, I decided that I liked a pop up asking me, Do you want to allow this program to make changes to your computer? I also like having to run all of my tools, defrag, start up manager, crap cleaner etc. as admin. No one else can get in and change anything. I'm not on the anti MS- bandwagon.

Ergo anyone that doesn't like UAC is merely "on the anti MS- bandwagon" - there couldn't possibly be any other reason
