    MSE vanished after shutdown!!!

Last night my pc installed microsoft malware protection twice and removed mse. is this an infection? It also tried to install microsoft anti malware without luck and tried to uninstall it with similar results. It did all of this through the update center while I was sleeping. seems very screwy. please help! I cannot uninstall using ccleaner or windows uninstaller. i cannot reinstall either. I am currently scanning with malwarebytes and i will update with the results. there doesn't seem to be any performance issues or odd things running in the tray. defender updated and says pc is running correct. Im getting flustered as I liked mse and now feel unsafe without it.

    Hi, zapviii.

What is "Microsoft Malware Protection"? Are you referring to the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool?

Regardless, since you have Windows 7, 64-bit, I suggest you restore your system to a point prior to the last night. Then manually update MSE. Launch MSE. Click the down arrow by Help (located in the right-hand corner) and select "Upgrade Microsoft Security Essentials".

Edit note: Yet again, I need to type faster (and not be trying to follow World Cup at the same time). lol

    Hi, Jacee. :)

malwarebytes completed a full scan w/o issues. These shots show what all this sucker tried to and did do and explains what I meant by what I called the programs installed. The last pic shows redundant info except for the last line. wish I could have gotten the whole report on one shot but resolution prevents this. I will try restore but will have to be later tonite when I have more time. tried to install avg free just to have something and it warned against running it with mse installed. cant install or uninstall mse. uninstall offers to remove it from list but i didn't.

Review your action center and see if virus protection is turned off.

This is not a mbam scan!
    These are Microsoft updates.

I ran malwarebytes to make sure my computer wasn't infected. mse is off and I can't turn it on or access any of its functions. therefore my computer is running sans protection at the time because everything I try to install conflicts with the stupid mse that is but isn't there and cannot be removed or reconfigured. thanks to everyone for their input as i am flying blindly on this one.

USe your control panel/security settings and then use the dropdown menu to see if MSE is turned off. Review the attached screenshot.
