If the computer came with Skype, it should stay on it.

In case you lose Skype, you can download it for free from here: Skype 4.2 for Windows - Download the latest version of Skype and get free computer calls

My dad likes the program Trend Micro, because he can use it on multiple computers and only pay for it once, versus paying for other security programs for each computer. Is it worth it? I ran it before and I felt like it slowed the computer and it missed some things.

No, not worth it. There is no reason to pay for anti-virus anymore.

You can use the free Microsoft Security Essentials on as many computers as you want without paying anything.

Try running this in Task Manager:
    Code:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbam.exe"
