Which DEP setting should be turned on?

Option 1: Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only (default)

Option 2: Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:

I'm running the 64-bit version of 7 if that matters...And it does indicate at the bottom "Your computer's processor supports hardware-based DEP."

    Definitely Option 2.

And check the setting once in a while to make sure that something hasn't "authorized itself".

    Thanks guys,

When you say check to make sure nothing has authorized itself, do mean any applications in that box area?
I have three that were there when I turned it on.
    -Advanced Uninstaller
    -Installation Monitor
    -LoaderRunOnce

Should those be checked or unchecked?

Depends, did you authorize them or did it come set that way by default.

Probably the safest thing would be to disable those one by one, reboot and if any certain program starts giving you problems because of the disable, investigate the program, make sure it's not spyware or malware, then if need be, re-enable it.

I don't have any of those enabled on my sys, but I am running x86, whereas you're using 64 bit and I'm not familiar with 64 bit systems....yet.

I agree with this. What's going to happen if DEP has a problem with any of those that you remove is this, a popup dialog will present itself and give you the option to add it back into the list.

That's terrible...when i enable Option 2, i have some programs that shouldn't exist anymore on my system and i can't really check which path they do are from.

Hmm, I don't understand. If you want to get rid of them, just remove them. If you want to un-check which is essentially the same thing except they are left in for future re-checking, then uncheck. As to the path, you could do a search on your HD for the first two. The last one I fear will return a great number of hits since MS updates will use this one quite alot.

Yes indeed i could deleted them or un-check.

I was just amaze that those programs that had been removed since quite a while now, still appear somewhere even after some cleaning task. The two first both belonging from from a Registry Cleaner program.

Yeah the last one might be near impossible to trace!!

I'm using DEP option 1 most of the time, that's maybe why i saw them just now (I tried option 2 because of this thread), I do not want a popup dialog more on the system Os.

Non, I'm curious to know if after you have removed the entries, do they come back when you re-open the DEP exception list? Sometimes they will remain after removing them. I think when this happens, there is sequence to removing them.
