    Netbook's Antivirus

    Hello,

I'd like to know, what's the best antivirus available for a smsung n130 netbook? I want to keep it light and safe for attack.

do i need a smart security product ? or just antivirus because i am willing to visit 2-4 sites only which I know them.

    Thank you!!

I have a Toshiba NB300 netbook & use Microsoft Security Essentials along with Windows 7 built in firewall, have had no problems so far.

Gilly is right on as there are many here that use that combo.
I use MSE AV and Comodo FW but again to each their own.

Avast is a light weight AV. As said by many members already, MSE is a good choice.

    Hi, TheIceman6.

Since you're using a NetBook, you're going to be after a pretty lightweight application. I'd recommend ESET NOD32 as it's a light application and is easy to use. Any of the below application would be a good option for you, and of course, MSE is another option.

    Free Antivirus Applications

    • ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 - Please use this download link and this download link only. I ask you to do this to avoid downloading incorrect and potentially harmful software. Please select the Antivirus download, not the Smart Security download, as we only want an antivirus. Select the appropriate version (32-bit or 64-bit) depending on your operating system.
    • Avira AntiVir Personal - FREE Antivirus - Please use this download link and this download link only. I ask you to do this to avoid downloading incorrect and potentially harmful software.
    • Avast! Free Antivirus 5.0.396 Final - Please use this download link and this download link only. I ask you to do this to avoid downloading incorrect and potentially harmful software.
    • Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2010 - Trial Version - Please use this download link and this download link only. I ask you to do this to avoid downloading incorrect and potentially harmful software. To download this software, you'll need to go through an e-mail verification process. Please fill in your Name and E-mail Address to do this at the link provided above.

    Thanks,
    Harvey Meale

MSE is extremely unobtrusive towards the performance of your system. I highly recommend it.

    Hi, TheIceman6.

Congratulations on the new netbook! I checked the specs for the Samsung N130 Netbook and it appears that it comes with Windows XP SP3 (If you’re looking for great value and performance, Rely on the Samsung N130 N130-13B - Netbooks - Mobile Computing | SAMSUNG).

Note that the previously linked ESET and Kaspersky programs are trial only.

Considering that the netbook is Windows XP, I would suggest you consider a Security Suite and agree with ESET, but would recommend ESET Smart Security. There is a trial available.

If you are only considering free antivirus and firewall programs, the following are free for personal use (my personal favorite being MSE):

    Free Antivirus Software:

    avast! 5 Home Edition
    Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic
    Microsoft Security Essentials

    Free Firewalls:

    Don't Assume

most people that Inknow wipe their computer's hard drive right after they buy it. This lets them start fresh and put their choice of OS on it. The OP should have told us what their hw/sw specs were, so that the answers could be more useful to them.

G1LLY has a security set up that many use and have very good luck. All the reading I do on this indicate in combination they work well and are light on the systems resources. When the subscription on my antivirs runs out that combination is what I will use.

Hi theiceman 6, i personally feel even if u are planning to visit one or two sites which you feel secure, still u cant let ur guard down because the good sites also get hacked sometime and can infect you. So my advice is you have multy layer protection, which means apart from a real time AV u should use atleast one on demand scaner. MBAM and SAS are two of my personal favourite and probably the best out there and free too. Winpatrol is also very informative and handy.
