Thanks ! Just downloaded Spybot and cleaned the computer !
Right now I am trying to install the kaspersky and I am having problems, it's telling me the Avast I had before is not uninstalled even though I did it and reboot twice...

I asked the same question on the "Best AV" thread, if anyone has an answer to this, please post it there for other's people's sake, because I know most use Avast.

ZoneAlarm doesn't stop you from getting virii, nor does it have an anti-virus database =/

It's a firewall nothing more, it only stops unauthorised software from accessing zones outside of your own PC e.g the local network and internet.

Yes it does. It has full Kaspersky built into it, with updates like every hour or two available. I'm talking about the Security Suite version. A properly configured ZoneAlarm on an XP or Vista system is top notch.

That, I agree with. (properly configured)

There really isn't a perfect or best firewall or antivirus that can keep a computer from getting infected by a drive-by .swf banner, "malvertizing", or an infected web page, or DNS redirection.... so it really is up to the person in the chair (behind the computer) to configure their anti-malware tools to help protect them.

    Firefox, flashblock and adblock plugins.
Those stop the teachniques you're talking about jacee.

Also, I don't know what AV you're using... but every time i've copped one of those Symantec Corp has picked it up with no troubles.

I still have several files in my quarantine, source location is the Firefox Cache

Now if i were using IE6 or 7, then instead of just getting a bad temp file in my cache, some websites actually launched a software install automatically, so there was a far bigger risk to using IE than FF ever will have.

for now, i'm just navigating safe trusted sights with IE8... i really should browser test this however. Laters

Then that's not ZA is it? That's kaspersky.
ZA does not protect you from virii.

Ya. On my downstairs pc, my family likes to play some MS games from msn.com so I "allow" lol them to use IE8.

They then take the liberty of browsing elsewhere sometimes, even though they know better, and I end up with a minor problem or two. FF is configured with all the goodies and they are supposed to and usually use that. I don't run any AV on here besides default built-in service because it's only a 1.5 GHz P4 on 7 and don't need cycles eaten up. So I have a really really long hosts file lol and consider the effort I put into maintaining worth it as opposed to putting AV on there for them.

I get what you mean about ZA and Kaspersky sexytool. Come on though! lol If I install something that says ZA and end up with AV/spyware protection, then I fully consider ZA to be protecting from malware.

I'm a long time Steve Gibson reader. I think he made me paranoid too. haha I like Stealth mode of ZA and have been using it ever since he started to recommend it. Then it was sold and for certain specific reasons, he stopped doing that.
