    Emsisoft Anti-Malware 5.0 Question

    Emsisoft Anti-Malware 5.0

Was Wondering if any one uses this Antivirus ? And what you think of it if you do. Not trying to compare Antiviruses but would just like some knowledge of this antivirus. Reason i am intrigued is a couple weeks ago they gave out a free Year license and i am debating to switching or not since my Preloaded Norton Trial on this machine will be expiring soon.

well i have only used the "Anti-malware" part of it and it's great so the anti virus must be as good and you have a free 1 year licence so go ahead and use it.

Thanks for the Reply. Thats what my initial thoughts when i signed up for the License was that it was only malware Removal tool which i Currently am using Malware Bytes which i love. I wanted to try it out and see how it was but then i saw it was a new version that incorparates Anti-Virus now so i decidied to hold off until the trial of norton was closer to expiring. And that i found it was suitable.

@Petey thanks for taking the time to find me some readable information =D

You will see many arguments on here for and against different programs at the end of the day it is a personal choice. The best course to take is always safe surfing, don't visit porn or torrents sites and don't download pirated software.

Having said that web sites can and get hijacked so there is never going to be 100% safety.

I personaly use the following and have never had any malware, virus or Trojans.

Kaspersky Internet Security Suite 2011, Malwarebytes and MSE.

Remove Norton with Download and run the Norton Removal Tool to uninstall your Norton product | Norton Support Note: All Norton products installed will be uninstalled.

Try Emsisoft Anti-Malware and if it works well for you, I recommend using the one year licence.

The anti-virus component of Emsisoft Anti-Malware is handled by the Ikarus engine. It is known for a high detection rate (nothing is ever 100%).

    hi...
1.emsisoft antimalware(formely known as A2) is quite an effective av/as ,albeit prone to false postiives which really is its only blip.
    2.It has two scanners-ikarus + emssisoft
    3. It has a behaviour guard called IDS too. This is the same as mamutu -the standalone bb of emsisoft.
4.Its first update is massive and if you miss updates for two or three days you'd require to update the entire database.
5.Its surf guard can be a pain so ideally set to notify only
6.Emsisoft has recently acquired tallemu so some time soon an integrated suite with emsisoft+online armor would come out(hopefully sooner than later) that would be killer app as is the current OA++.
7.As a scanner it is damm good but honestly for realtime protection there are better options available...but this is my opinion and opinions are subjective.

Emsisoft Anti Malware is very good in terms of detection and removal of malicious files. However, its very annoying sometimes due to lot of pop ups. Try it yourself.

I have had the full version for some time, but do not use the AntiVirus part. It isn't the best choice for AV. There are free AV better rated for sure. A Guy
